Fest fest: the Brazil Project

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

Jazz flutist Ali Ryerson and guitarist Phill Fest join the Brazil Project for “Dig This Samba!” at the Scottish Rite Center (463 Paseo de Peralta) at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. The concert is a tribute to the music of the late Brazilian pianist Manfredo Fest, father of the guitarist. “I have been inspired by Manfredo’s music since I first heard him in the late 1970s,” said Brazil Project pianist Bert Dalton. “His wonderful melodies, his natural use of Brazilian rhythms and harmonies, and flawless piano technique set him apart as one of the most important Brazilian jazz pianists.” The other members of Brazil Project are bassist Rob “Milo” Jaramillo, vocalist Patty Stephens, drummer John Bartlit, and percussionist Frank Leto. Advance tickets for the Santa Fe concert are $20 through Tickets Santa Fe at the Lensic (505-988-1234, www.ticketssantafe.org); or $25 at the door. The band also presents “Dig This Samba” on Friday, Dec. 4, in Albuquerque and on Sunday, Dec. 6, in El Paso; see www.bertdalton.com for details. — Paul Weideman
