City songs: Juan Gabriel
Famed Mexican singer Juan Gabriel plays for one night only at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center (201 W. Marcy St.) on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. Gabriel’s career began when he was thirteen, performing in clubs in Juárez. In 1971 he signed a recording contract with RCA, and 45 years later his album sales exceed 100 million; he is known as one of the most popular singers throughout Latin America and much of the United States. With his mariachi band, dancers, backup singers, and orchestra, the legendary musician plays a “A Tribute to the City of Santa Fe, NM” as a benefit for several New Mexico nonprofit children’s organizations, including Heart Gallery of New Mexico Foundation, which supports children in foster care, Flamenco Next Generation, and UNM Children’s Hospital.
