Famed Mex­i­can singer Juan Gabriel plays for one night only at the Santa Fe Com­mu­nity Con­ven­tion Cen­ter (201 W. Marcy St.) on Wed­nes­day, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. Gabriel’s ca­reer be­gan when he was thir­teen, per­form­ing in clubs in Juárez. In 1971 he signed a record­ing con­tract with RCA, and 45 years later his al­bum sales ex­ceed 100 mil­lion; he is known as one of the most pop­u­lar singers through­out Latin Amer­ica and much of the United States. With his mari­achi band, dancers, backup singers, and orchestra, the leg­endary mu­si­cian plays a “A Trib­ute to the City of Santa Fe, NM” as a ben­e­fit for sev­eral New Mex­ico non­profit chil­dren’s or­ga­ni­za­tions, in­clud­ing Heart Gallery of New Mex­ico Foun­da­tion, which sup­ports chil­dren in foster care, Fla­menco Next Gen­er­a­tion, and UNM Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal.
