O holy night

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

The December countdown of Christmas music begins with a concert given by the Santa Fe Symphony Chorus and the Santa Fe Women’s Ensemble (both directed by Linda Raney), along with the brass players of the Santa Fe Symphony and the organ at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi (131 Cathedral Place). This year’s installment of what is a popular annual event includes choral selections by Sweelinck, Britten, and Morton Lauridsen; instrumental pieces by Giovanni Gabrieli and Holst; and an audience singalong of familiar carols. There are no advance reservations for this concert, which is free. It begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, but savvy Santa Feans know that it pays to arrive early and stand in line for a bit until the doors open, since the pews tend to fill up.
