Weber (1881-1961) was an American painter, part of the Gertrude Stein circle in Paris, and he studied under Henri Matisse. Weber helped introduce the avant-garde to American art, experimenting with Cubism and other forms of abstraction and becoming one of the nation’s foremost modernist artists. Max Weber: In Retrospect premiered at the gallery’s New York location in October and opens in Santa Fe on Friday, Dec. 11, with a reception at 5 p.m.
