The night before: Performance Santa Fe Orchestra

Pasatiempo - - JENNIFER GOES -

Every year, the Performance Santa Fe Orchestra, conducted by Joseph Illick, offers a Christmas Eve concert that is thoughtfully scheduled early enough so folks can stoke themselves with fine music before heading off to the Farolito Walk on Canyon Road. At 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24, the program consists of Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5, which its composer characterized as “glorifying the grandeur of the human spirit,” and Brahms’ Double Concerto. The latter, originally composed to spotlight violin and cello, will be given in an arrangement made for duo-pianists Anderson & Roe, who are returning for a repeat visit with Performance Santa Fe. The concert will be preceded at 2 p.m. that afternoon by a family concert of the same program, essentially a dress rehearsal with some commentary. Both events take place at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.). Tickets cost $27-$100 for the evening concert and $20 ($5 for children) for the family performance; they can be purchased by calling 505-988-1234 or visiting www.ticketssantafe.org. — J.M.K
