Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

The Performance Santa Fe Orchestra, conducted by Joseph Illick, bids adieu to the old year in its annual New Year’s Eve concert, which takes place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.). Joyce Yang will be the soloist in Schumann’s Piano Concerto, a tenderhearted work that audiences have embraced steadfastly since its premiere 170 years ago, in December 1845. Also on the bill is Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 3, the Sinfonia

eroica. At 2 p.m. that afternoon, the group offers a family concert of the same program, essentially a dress rehearsal with some commentary attached. Tickets are $27-$100 for the evening concert, and a wallet-friendly $20 ($5 for children) for the family concert. Tickets for both can be had through www.ticketssantafe.org, by calling 505-988-1234, or directly from Performance Santa Fe (505-984-8759; www.performancesantafe.org). — James M. Keller
