Meet the “Brandenburgs”: Santa Fe Pro Musica Orchestra
The Santa Fe Pro Musica Orchestra, conducted by Thomas O’Connor, has made a traversal of Bach’s
Brandenburg Concertos a holiday tradition. Bach compiled these six concertos — each for a different combination of instruments — to support an application for a job he didn’t get, but in posterity they grew to number among his most widely loved compositions. It’s hard to top the “Brandenburgs” when it comes to sheer exuberance. Musicians look forward to navigating their perfectly plotted pages, and audiences never fail to be swept up in their optimistic vigor. Performances take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, and Wednesday, Dec. 30, at St. Francis Auditorium (New Mexico Museum of Art, 107 W. Palace Ave.) Tickets ($12-$69) are available from Tickets Santa Fe at the Lensic (505-988-1234, www.ticketssantafe.org) or directly through the Pro Musica box office (505-988-4640, Ext. 1000). — J.M.K.
