Wandering minstrels: Rebbe’s Orkestra

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

Judaic music encompasses folk songs, dance tunes, chants, and many other styles that have been passed down through the generations and that have been influenced by the music of other cultures as Jewish people moved from country to country, looking for a homeland. The Rebbe’s Orkestra, a six-member band from Albuquerque, puts its own spin on the old-world wedding and party music of klezmer, traditional Eastern European music that they infuse with similar styles from Spain, Greece, and the Mediterranean. The Rebbe’s Orkestra brings its fiddles, cymbals, snare drums, guitars, mandolins, accordions, and a variety of other instruments to Santa Fe for a concert, “The Story Is Enough,” at San Miguel Chapel (401 Old Santa Fe Trail) on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, available at www.brownpapertickets.com, or $20 at the door.
