Pianist in the house: Per Tengstrand

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

The Santa Fe Pro Musica Orchestra, conducted by Thomas O’Connor, welcomes back Per Tengstrand, so regular a visitor that he practically qualifies as the house pianist. A Swede living in New Jersey, he is a particular proponent of Scandinavian repertoire. When it comes to piano concertos, that inescapably points to Grieg’s entry in the genre. Tengstrand and the Pro Musica Orchestra last presented it here in November 2012, and they will do so again at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24. The remainder of the program is given over to Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, the Pastoral. Both performances take place at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.). Tickets ($12-$69) can be purchased from Pro Musica directly (505-988-4640, Ext. 1000) or through the Lensic (505-988-1234; www.ticketssantafe.org).
