Susan York: graphite sculpture
2016, installation at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum
Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, 217 Johnson St., 505-946-1000 Susan York: Carbon is an installation of graphite drawings and cast graphite sculpture by the Santa Fe-based artist. York’s works are placed throughout the museum, juxtaposed with the paintings and drawings of Georgia O’Keeffe in the multi-themed exhibition A Great American Artist. A Great American Story, which opened on Jan. 21. “Graphite was known as a preparatory material until the modernists of the twentieth century began presenting graphite drawings as finished works of art,” writes museum curator Carolyn Kastner. The reception for Susan York: Carbon is Friday, Feb. 5, at 5 p.m. and is free.
