Songwriter and performer Steve Poltz; Port Authority Throw Down at Teatro Paraguas; comedian Paula Poundstone; pianist Grisha Krivchenia
When Paula Poundstone has a gig, she likes to take a picture of a chair backstage and post it to Facebook with the caption, “About to tell’em in .” She might be in Portland or Boston or Houston. The chairs are rarely fancy and are sometimes so sadly dilapidated that you have to laugh. Nothing seems to faze Poundstone, who’s been on the road since the 1980s with a standup act that is more conversation than monologue, wearing her signature brightly colored, oversized suits, spinning stories about her family and sharing observations about life while bantering with audience members. She’s also a frequent guest on the popular NPR current events quiz show, Wait Wait ... Don’t Tell Me! Poundstone will show her Facebook followers the chairs backstage at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.) on Thursday, Feb. 4, and she’ll tell ’em at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, $ 36-$ 46, are available at www.ticketssantafe.org or by calling 505-988-1234. — J.L.
