Strings and skins: Trio en Medio

An in­trigu­ing mix of f la­vors is promised to lis­ten­ers at the Satur­day, Feb. 20, con­cert by Trio en Medio. Group mem­ber Brahim Frib­gane, a na­tive of Morocco, has per­formed the oud on al­bums by gui­tarist Leni Stern, turntab­list DJ Logic, free-jazz bassist Wil­liam Parker, and on six al­bums by the jazz group Club d’Elf, but for this con­cert he sticks to per­cus­sion and dumbek (hand drum). For the Trio En Medio date at Gig Per­for­mance Space (1808 Se­cond St.,, string play is pro­vided by Bruce Dunlap, a jazz gui­tarist whose ré­sumé in­cludes mul­ti­ple al­bums with singer Sara K. and with f lutist Her­bie Mann, and who is also the owner of Gig. The band’s third mem­ber is pi­anist and com­poser John Ran­gel, a fix­ture on the Santa Fe jazz scene known for his role in the Trib­ute Trio as well as his ex­cel­lent 2006 record, Pages. The mu­sic starts at 7:30 p.m. Ad­mis­sion is $20 at the door. — P.W.
