Like it or not: NT Live in HD

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

“All the world’s a stage,” muses melancholy Jaques in Shakespeare’s

As You Like It, and the international broadcasts of the NT Live in HD series, transmitted from the National Theatre in London’s Southbank Centre, have helped make that a reality. Notwithstanding its general popularity, As You Like It has been curiously absent from that particular stage since 1979. Its narrative is not the easiest to follow, and many a viewer has surely given up along the way and simply basked in whatever madcap thing is going on at a given moment. “It’s the first sketch show, I think,” director Polly Findlay observed in an interview with The Guardian. Her new production, located in fancifully transforming contemporary locales, has received many positive reviews from the British press, and everyone seems wowed by Lizzie Clachan’s sets. Rosalie Craig stars as the fast-talking, cross- dressing Rosalind. Maybe review the plot prior to the broadcast, which you can see at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25. Tickets ($22) are available by calling 505-988-1234 or visiting www.ticketssantafe.org. — James M. Keller
