Organic revolutionary

Pasatiempo - - PASATIEMPO -

The most discussed organist of the past decade, Cameron Carpenter presents a concert Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center. No organ at the Lensic? No problem. Carpenter arrives equipped with his International Touring Organ, an electronic instrument of massive capabilities that he designed to unchain him from the ethos of the traditional “church organ recital.” It’s never “same old, same old” when Carpenter puts on a show, which may veer among an unpredictable variety of musical styles and tastes, delighting some listeners and scandalizing others. This will not be an evening for confirming classical music stereotypes. On the cover is a portrait of the artist; image © Thomas Grube and Sony Classical.
