Drumroll, please: TAO
The performers with the TAO taiko drumming ensemble just kill stages with a super- dramatic mix of powerful drumming, music, dance, fashion, muscles, and grace. They play the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2. The TAO: Seventeen Samurai show adds creative choreography and a lively athleticism to Japan’s traditional taiko drumming. Some of the stunts performed by the troupe’s energized men and women may even remind you of Cirque du Soleil. Founded in 1993, the group began its North American tour with a Feb. 10 appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Tickets for the March 2 show are $20-$55; available by visiting www.ticketssantafe.org or calling 505-988-1234. — P.W.
