Look at me, I’m Cidny Bullens
You might recognize Cindy Bullens’ voice from the songs “Freddy, My Love” and “It’s Raining on Prom Night” on the 1978 original soundtrack to the motion picture
Grease or from her solo rock albums, including Desire Wire (1978), Steal the Night (1979), and, after the death of her young daughter from cancer, Somewhere Between Heaven
and Earth (1999). Bullens has played with Bob Dylan, Elton John, and John Mellencamp, among others, and though not a household name, the Grammy-nominated artist has always been a critical darling. In 2011, after 40 years in the music industry, Cindy transitioned to Cidny and claimed the gender he’d always known he was. In Somewhere Between: A One Wo/Man Show, directed by Tanya Taylor Rubinstein, Bullens relays his story in song and images, alone on stage with his guitar at t he Railyard Performance Center (1611 Paseo de Peralta). The opening performance, on Friday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m., followed by a reception, is a fundraiser to benefit Southwest Care Center; tickets are $100. Additional performances, on Saturday, Feb. 27, and March 4 and 5 at 7: 30 p.m., are $ 20. Tickets are available at www. brownpapertickets.com. — J.L.
