Música Antigua de Albuquerque presents a program of medieval, Renaissance, and early Baroque music titled “The Pursuit of Love & War,” a topic that should find resonance with Game of Thrones aficionados, among others. Thirty short pieces make up this concert, which ranges through compositions from Italy, Spain, France, Germany, England, and the Netherlands. Some of the well-known composers in the line-up are Guillaume de Machaut, Josquin des Prez, and Claudio Monteverdi, who is represented by selections from his Fourth and Eighth Books of Madrigals. It concludes with Clément Janequin’s early-music chestnut “La guerre” (also known as “La Bataille de Marignan”), a descriptive chanson that portrays a military engagement, almost surely the Battle of Marignano of 1515, in which François I led the French to victory over the Swiss. Janequin presents it complete with allusions to the sounds of fifes and drums, the thundering of bombards and cannons, and the crashing of lances and harquebusiers. The concert takes place at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, at Christ Lutheran Church (1701 Arroyo Chamiso). Tickets ($16, with discounts for students and seniors) are available at the door or by calling 505- 842-9613. — James M. Keller
