All in the family: Antoine Roney Trio
SFé Jazz presents the Antoine Roney Trio on Monday, May 2, at Joseph’s of Santa Fe (428 Agua Fría St.). Roney, a New Yorkbased saxophonist, has released several albums of his own and has worked with his brother, trumpet player Wallace Roney, as well as with drummers Cindy Blackman, Elvin Jones, and Alphonse Mouzon over the past 25 years. He plays Santa Fe with bassist Rashaan Carter and drummer Kojo Roney — the bandleader’s son, an amazing player who will be twelve years old in June. Antoine’s recent Facebook posts include historic clips of Ella Fitzgerald and Cannonball Adderley and of Kojo playing with out-there saxman Pharoah Sanders. There are two sets at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $75-$250; call 505-670-6482.
