Ro­man­tic melo­drama thrives in

a mu­si­cal stage play by Ja­son Robert Brown, which pre­miered in Chicago in 2001 and was made into a movie in 2014 star­ring Anna Ken­drick and Jeremy Jor­dan. It’s the story of Jamie and Cathy’s five-year re­la­tion­ship gone sour, told from his-and-hers points of view. Cathy nar­rates, in song, from the end of the af­fair, while Jamie be­gins at the first date. di­rected by Vaughn Irv­ing, plays at the Santa Fe Play­house (142 E. De Var­gas St.). There’s a pre­view on Thurs­day, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. ($15); the play runs through Sun­day, July 3. Thurs­day, Fri­day, and Satur­day per­for­mances are at 7:30 p.m., and Sun­day mati­nees are at 2 p.m. Ad­mis­sion is $25 (dis­counts avail­able); a gala re­cep­tion on Satur­day, June 11, is $30.
