Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

St. John’s College’s annual outdoor summer music series, Music on the Hill, starts at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, with the jazzy blues stylings of vocalist Hillary Smith, whose recordings won the New Mexico Music Awards album of the year in 2009 and 2012. Smith, born in Hobbs, has been pleasing crowds for 30 years, first with her band Strictly Taboo, and now with Soul Kitchen, a trio that features saxophonist Glenn Kostur, bassist Marcus Casman, and drummer Mo Roberts. They have a Southwestern-infused gospel flair that is perfect for dancing, which is encouraged, as is bringing a picnic dinner and taking advantage of the free shuttle service to the St. John’s athletic field. The shuttle boards at Museum Hill on Camino Lejo and departs every 15 minutes between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Admission to the concert is free. St. John’s College is located at 1160 Camino de Cruz Blanca. For more information, call 505-984-6199 or visit www.sjc.edu. — Jennifer Levin
