Sopranos soar at Festival of Song
Performance Santa Fe’s Festival of Song series continues this week with a pair of recitals featuring large-voiced sopranos. On Sunday, July 31, Angela Meade and pianist Joseph Illick (PSF’s artistic director) make the rounds of favorite arias from Puccini’s La rondine, Verdi’s La forza del destino, Korngold’s Die tote Stadt, and Catalani’s La Wally, in addition to songs by Liszt, Bellini, and Strauss. On Thursday, Aug. 4, Leah Crocetto (this summer’s Donna Anna in Santa Fe Opera’s production of Don Giovanni )is joined by pianist Tamara Sanikidze for arias from Rossini’s
Semiramide and Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, as well as songs by Strauss, Rachmaninoff, and Liszt — plus several jazz selections. The concerts take place at 4 p.m. on their respective afternoons, at the Scottish Rite Center, 463 Paseo de Peralta.
