All that jazz: Three groups, two nights
A weekend of trippy improvisational jazz is on order for one of Santa Fe’s newest performance spaces, Fresh Santa Fe (2855 Cooks Road, Studio A), with two nights of concerts. At 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, experience Sound & Vision with The Ryan Seward Trio and Rampant Egos. Seward, who is based in Denver, joins bassist Mike Balistreri of Santa Fe and tuba player Mark Weaver of Albuquerque with projections by Jay Baker. Rampant Egos is a progressive improvisational band of Santa Feans who play unlikely instruments, including toys. Sound & Vision sets take place in front of live projections. On Saturday, Sept. 3, at 7:30 p.m., the Trevor Anderies Quintet of Los Angeles plays innovative jazz led by drummer and composer Anderies, who has performed internationally with such bands as Slumgum, The Walsh Set Trio, and The Jon Armstrong Jazz Orchestra. Admission to each concert is a suggested donation of $10. For more information, call 505-231-2342. — J.L.
