Fi­esta for­ever: Mari­achi Extravaganza

If you fre­quent Santa Fe’s restau­rants and bars, you know that in the City Dif­fer­ent, you can lis­ten to live mari­achi mu­sic any night of the week as well at brunch on Sun­day. But in early Septem­ber, we hit peak mari­achi sea­son. Rov­ing bands of mu­si­cians play out­doors at ev­ery op­por­tu­nity, con­vinc­ing some tourists that this is just how it is in Santa Fe, and they even en­ter of­fice build­ings to play for work­ers in cel­e­bra­tion of Fi­esta, which is def­i­nitely not some­thing that hap­pens ev­ery day. On Satur­day, Sept. 3, the Santa Fe Fi­esta Coun­cil goes all out for the tra­di­tional mu­sic of Mexico and New Mexico with Mari­achi Extravaganza at the Santa Fe Opera, fea­tur­ing Mari­achi Las Coronelas (with spe­cial guest An­to­nio Reyna), Mari­achi Raíces de América, and Mari­achi Calor.
