2016, oil on panel
The Globe Gallery, 727 Canyon Road, 505-989-3888 In the exhibit Chelsea Bridge, painter Mark Villarreal presents paintings inspired by a recent trip to Italy, where he viewed works by Renaissance masters. He is also influenced by John Singer Sargent, the New York jazz scene of the 1940s and ‘50s, and the Abstract Expressionists, particularly Arshile Gorky. Of Gorky, Villarreal writes, “I am intrigued by how feminine his work is when compared to the swagger of his contemporaries.” The exhibit opens Friday, Sept. 2, with a 5 p.m. reception.
