Stormy weather: Serenata of Santa Fe’s Shades of Gray
Serenata of Santa Fe begins its season with a program titled Shades of Gray, apparently indicating that the works being performed are not paragons of cheerfulness. Violinist David Felberg, violist Shanti Randall, cellist Sally Guenther, and pianist Yi-heng Yang join in works for piano quartet by Gustav Mahler — a journeyman composition from 1876 or 1877, discovered after his widow’s death in a folder labeled “Youthful Works” — Alfred Schnittke, John Harbison, Pavel Karmanov, and Judith Weir. Felberg and Yang also perform Schubert’s Sonatina in D minor for Violin and Piano. The concert takes place at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, at First Presbyterian Church, 208 Grant Ave. (Take note of that starting time: Originally planned for 3 p.m., the concert now begins a half-hour later.) Tickets ($15$35/$10 students) are available online at www.brownpapertickets.com or at the door 30 minutes before the concert (cash or check only). For more information, call 505-989-7988.
