Cauldron bubble: Joe West’s Theater of Death

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS - — J.L.

Though Madrid, New Mexico, is now known as a village for iconoclastic creative types, it used to be a ghost town, the sort of place that might whistle and whisper with spirits in the dead of night. In anticipation of Halloween, the frights return when Joe West Music presents Theater of Death: The Champagne Chronicles at the Engine House Theatre (2846 NM 14, 505-473-0743). West, a ubiquitous local musician and entertainer, hosts the semiannual evening of music and performance. This year’s theme is “champagne,” so expect a frothy sort of terror. Other local musicians featured in Theater of Death are Westin McDowell, Johnny Broomdust, and Busy McCarroll. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, Saturday, Oct. 22, and Thursday, Oct. 27 (as well as Oct. 28 and 31) and at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, Sunday, Oct. 23 (and again on Oct. 29 and 30). Tickets are $20 ($15 seniors/ students), available at www. ticketssantafe.org.
