Angels among us: This Wonderful Life
Jeremy Kendall runs himself ragged with Christmas spirit in This Wonderful Life, his one-man version of the seasonal classic It’s a Wonderful Life. He plays George Bailey — who, he notes, sounds remarkably like Jimmy Stewart — as well as George’s guardian angel, Clarence, and more than 30 other denizens of Bedford Falls. Kendall acts out the entire movie while at the same time narrating the visual aspects that are not recreated for the play, such as the gym floor sliding apart and dumping teens into the swimming pool underneath during the school dance. Audiences don’t need to have seen the movie to appreciate the theatrical hoops through which Kendall jumps to make the story as vivid on stage as it is on screen. The Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.) presents This Wonderful Life on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, $20-$45, can be purchased at www.ticketssantafe.org or by calling the Lensic box office at 505-988-1234. — J.L.
