While shepherds search and sing: Los Pastores

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

The New Mexico Bach Society Chorale and Players, conducted by Franz Vote, performs musical excerpts from the Hispanic folk play Los Pastores. The pioneering folk-music collector John Donald Robb originally arranged this work (in a setting for chorus and piano) out of pieces he had gathered on his treks around the Southwest, but this performance employs a newly created expansion for soloists, chorus, and chamber orchestra. The program also includes other Spanish and Hispanic motets and folk pieces relevant to the season, as well as commentary by Jack Loeffler and retired University of New Mexico professor Enrique Lamadrid. The concert takes place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 1120 Canyon Road. Tickets ($34-$46) can be arranged by calling 877-466-3404 or through www.nmperformingartssociety.org. — James M. Keller
