All the world’s a stage
Photographer Jo Whaley has spent the past few years documenting the art and architecture of the Scottish Rite Masonic Center for a forthcoming book on the building, whose startling pink facade has greeted passersby on Paseo de Peralta for over a century. Its theater is stocked with dozens of historic painted backdrops, which Whaley used as the basis for a series of original photo compositions called Stage Stills, on view in Alcoves 16/17 #6, the sixth in a yearlong exhibition series at the New Mexico Museum of Art (107 W. Palace Ave.). The exhibit also includes solo installations by Chris Collins, Christy Georg, Jami Porter Lara, and Valerie Roybal. On the cover is a detail of Whaley’s Missing Script, an archival pigment print from 2016.
