From 5:30 un­til 8 p.m. on Fri­day, Dec. 9, the Palace of the Gov­er­nors will be abuzz with fam­ily-friendly ac­tiv­ity: piñatas, craft projects, hands-on print­ing­press demon­stra­tions (for mak­ing Christ­mas cards), sea­sonal snacks, var­i­ous mu­si­cal en­ter­tain­ments, and a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. This free event is ac­cessed by the en­trance on the Plaza, at 105 W. Palace Ave. Vis­i­tors young and old will feel es­pe­cially warm of heart if they bring along a do­na­tion of canned goods or other non­per­ish­able food.

On Sun­day, Dec. 11, Santa Feans re-en­act the time-hon­ored tra­di­tion of Las Posadas, wend­ing around the Plaza in a can­dlelit pro­ces­sion in im­i­ta­tion of Mary and Joseph seek­ing lodg­ing in which the ex­pec­tant mother might give birth. The walk­a­bout ul­ti­mately leads to the court­yard of the Palace of the Gov­er­nors for re­fresh­ments and a carol sing. This free pub­lic event runs from 5:30 un­til 7 p.m. — J.M.K.
