From 5:30 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, the Palace of the Governors will be abuzz with family-friendly activity: piñatas, craft projects, hands-on printingpress demonstrations (for making Christmas cards), seasonal snacks, various musical entertainments, and a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. This free event is accessed by the entrance on the Plaza, at 105 W. Palace Ave. Visitors young and old will feel especially warm of heart if they bring along a donation of canned goods or other nonperishable food.
On Sunday, Dec. 11, Santa Feans re-enact the time-honored tradition of Las Posadas, wending around the Plaza in a candlelit procession in imitation of Mary and Joseph seeking lodging in which the expectant mother might give birth. The walkabout ultimately leads to the courtyard of the Palace of the Governors for refreshments and a carol sing. This free public event runs from 5:30 until 7 p.m. — J.M.K.
