North­ern ex­po­sure: Santa Fe Desert Cho­rale

Joshua Haber­mann di­rects the Santa Fe Desert Cho­rale in this year’s in­stall­ment of the group’s Carols and Lul­la­bies From Around the World con­cert, which fo­cuses this time on com­po­si­tions from north­ern climes. Among the works to be per­formed are a set­ting of the hymn “Ave Maris Stella,” writ­ten in the early 20th cen­tury by the Swedish com­poser Otto Ols­son, and one of the many Mag­ni­fi­cat set­tings by the 18th-cen­tury Dres­den­based com­poser Got­tfried Homil­ius. Per­for­mances take place at Cristo Rey Church (1120 Canyon Road) at 8 p.m. on Fri­day, Dec. 16, Satur­day, Dec. 17, and Tues­day, Dec. 20. The pro­gram is re­peated at the Cathe­dral Basil­ica of St. Fran­cis of As­sisi (131 Cathe­dral Place) at 8 p.m. on Wed­nes­day, Thurs­day and Fri­day, Dec. 21 to 23.
