San Francisco St., 2nd floor, 505-982-1559 Taos Modernist Earl Stroh (1924-2005) cre­ated un­der­stated po­etic land­scapes that can be re­garded as sug­ges­tive rather than ex­plicit rep­re­sen­ta­tions of place. His at­mo­spheric paint­ings and works on pa­per are at Wil­liam Tal­bot start­ing Fri­day, Dec. 16. The ex­hi­bi­tion Earl Stroh, Taos Modernist in­cludes more than 30 ex­am­ples of Stroh’s work, fea­tur­ing such notable pieces as his litho­graphic series Taos Maki­moto Suite. An ad­di­tional show of Stroh’s work, Earl Stroh: Mys­te­ri­ous and Tran­scen­dent, a Se­lec­tion of Paint­ings and Prints, opens at Aaron Payne Fine Art (213 E. Marcy St., 505-995-9779) on Dec. 23 with a 5 p.m. reception.
