Singing out: New Mexico Women’s Chorus

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

The New Mexico Women’s Chorus takes a trip back in time with Tune Into NMWC 1960 AM!, a concert of medleys by 1960s singing sensations including Chubby Checker, Marvin Gaye, and Nina Simone. The chorus, which has been open to women of all ages and experience levels since 1993, was founded with a socially progressive feminist mission. In reaction to the result of the recent president election, protest songs by Bob Dylan and other artists were added to what had been planned as a celebratory program. New Mexico Women’s Chorus performs at the Center for Spiritual Living (505 Camino de los Marquez, 505-983-5022) on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 4 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 and $15, available at www.nmwomenschorus.org, and $20 at the door. The chorus sings at the Roundhouse on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11:30 a.m. as part of the Women’s March on Washington-Santa Fe. — J.L.
