So you think you can dance: New Mex­ico School for the Arts

The young dancers at New Mex­ico School for the Arts show off their tal­ents with four world pre­mieres at Win­ter Dances 2017: An Evening of Mixed Reper­toire, open­ing at the James A. Lit­tle Theater at New Mex­ico School for the Deaf (1060 Cer­ril­los Road) at 7 p.m. on Fri­day, Jan. 20. Sostenuto, chore­ographed by Penny Saun­ders, is a neo­clas­si­cal duet with live ac­com­pa­ni­ment, while Take Five, chore­ographed by Rus­sell Baker, ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of NDI New Mex­ico, is set to the mu­sic of the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Alle­mande is chore­ographed by Gar­rett An­der­son, the chair of the NMSA dancede­part­ment, and Hold, the wind breath­less, was cre­ated for NMSA stu­dents by Quinn Whar­ton, who in­cor­po­rated bal­let and hip-hop dance into the chore­og­ra­phy.
