Happy birthday to the New Mexico Museum of Art. The museum’s centennial this year was the impetus for reviving its Alcoves exhibition series, an on-again, off-again group of shows inspired by the museum’s early years, when local artists could sign up for space to show their work. Each Alcoves show includes solo installations by five regional contemporary artists whose work is on view for seven weeks. Alcoves 16/17 #7, the last in the current cycle of shows, is on view through March 26 and features works by the late Ciel Bergman (1938-2017), Jessika Edgar, Ilona Pachler, Clayton Porter, and Edie Tsong. On the cover is Bergman’s 2015 oil on canvas, Dumping Animal Blood into the Sea; image courtesy the Koller Family and brave ART consulting.
