Maxwell Bennett: Apoptotic Drift 2016, steel, aluminum
Ellsworth Gallery, 215 E. Palace Ave., 505-989-7900 The works of Belgian-Amercian painter Roger Van Ouytsel and local sculptor Maxwell Bennett form Heaven and Earth, a new exhibit at Ellsworth Gallery. Ouytsel’s abstract, mixed-media paintings are made with textured paints, markers, inks, and graphite. “As a painter, I love to work with color, movement and imagination,” he writes on his website. “When I work with these qualities, I let my intuition and physical energy take over.” Bennett sculpts with hammered metal and alabaster to capture the human form in motion. The artists give a free talk at the gallery at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, followed by a 5 p.m. reception.
