Out of the mouths of babes
“I don’t want to disappoint my parents.” “I am a Muslim. I pray five times a day.” “I worry about my future.” “My dad works in construction.” “My wish is to visit the United States and to live forever.” These are statements by several of the more than 300 fourth-graders around the world that Judy Gelles has interviewed and photographed during the past seven years. A selection of her prints hangs in Global Perspectives: An Exhibition of the 2016 Choice Award Winners at the Marion Center for Photographic Arts, Santa Fe University of Art & Design, through April 7. On the cover is her photo A Computer, India: English Speaking Private School, courtesy Center.
