Jazz experience: Sheila Jordan and Alan Pasqua

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

Jazz singer Sheila Jordan and pianist Alan Pasqua lead a combo playing at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (107 W. Barcelona Road) at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 25, in a Santa Fe Music Collective concert. Over the past four decades or so, Pasqua has worked with Pat Benatar, Bob Dylan, and Carlos Santana, as well as with jazzmen Tony Williams, Peter Erskine, and Paul Motian. His last solo outing was a 2011 CD, Twin Bill, on which he played the music of Bill Evans on two pianos (via overdubbing). Jordan is a 2012 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master. In her awards speech she paid tribute to “my mentor, Charlie Parker,” and like the legendary bebop pioneer, Jordan is known for her creative musical approach. She’s also renowned for her scat singing and for duo recordings with Arild Andersen, Harvie Swartz, and other bass players. She and Pasqua are joined by the veteran Polish bassist Darek “Oles” Oleszkiewicz and Santa Fe’s John Trentacosta on drums. Tickets, $30, can be reserved by calling 505-983-6820.
