Grand masters: Baroque Holy Week concerts

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

The Santa Fe Pro Musica Baroque Ensemble, assisted by soprano Kathryn Mueller, continues with the final performances of its annual Baroque Holy Week concerts at the Loretto Chapel (207 Old Santa Fe Trail). Three leading lights of the late Baroque grace the program this time around. Antonio Vivaldi is represented by his Sinfonia e Sonata al Santo Sepolcro; Johann Sebastian Bach by his Cantata No. 82, “Ich habe genug” (in its revised version for soprano with flute obbligato); and George Frideric Handel by his Organ Concerto in G minor (Op. 4, No. 1), his German aria “Süsse stille, sanfte Quelle,” and his Trio Sonata in G major (Op. 5, No. 4). Handel pillaged his own back catalog in that particular trio sonata, in which he repurposed movements he had originally used in his oratorio Athalia, his “light entertainments” Terpsichore and

Parnasso in festa, and his operas Radamisto and Alcina — the last of which figures in Santa Fe Opera’s upcoming season. Call 505-988-1234 or visit www.ticketssantafe.org for ticket availability. — James M. Keller
