Ivan Barnett: Beyond the Sky 12 2017, pigmented steel
Patina Gallery, 131 W. Palace Ave., 505-986-3432 Ivan Barnett, co-owner of Patina, has his first solo exhibit in four years. The show, In the Garden & Beyond the Sky, opens with a 5 p.m. reception on Friday, May 12. Barnett’s garden sculptures of abstract shapes, plant, animal, and human forms are made of thin-gauged oxidized steel riveted together into collaged compositions, coated in flat black paint, and accented with bold touches of color. “The pieces are of the same material I have been using for almost half a century,” says the artist who is known for his folk-art-inspired mobiles. Barnett began sculpting in 1976, inspired by the folk arts of rural Pennsylvania. A portion of the sale of the artwork is being donated to the Nature Conservancy to support the Santa Fe Canyon Preserve.
