Distaff sounds: Mariachi Flor de Toloache
New York City’s only all-female mariachi band, Mariachi Flor de Toloache, takes a contemporary, multicultural approach to traditional Mexican music with members from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Australia, Colombia, Germany, Italy, and the United States. The ensemble’s 2015 self-titled debut was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Ranchera Album, and the women have performed around the world, including at the Grand Ole Opry and on The Late Show With Stephen
