Afro-Cuban by way of Canada: Battle of Santiago

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS - — J.L.

Toronto’s diverse immigrant population of musicians and artists gave rise to Battle of Santiago, an Afro-Cuban ensemble that is influenced by Canada’s range of musical styles. They formed in 2011 and now have three albums: Full Colour (2012), Followed by Thousands (2013), and La Migra (2017), released on their own label, Made With Pencil Crayons. Battle of Santiago plays on the Plaza as part of the Santa Fe Bandstand free series on 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 8. Shake Alert, a local Afrobeat and funk band, gets the evening started with a set at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.santafebandstand.org.
