Kent Monkman: St. Sebastian (detail) 2017, acrylic on canvas

Pasatiempo - - AMUSE-BOUCHE -

Peters Projects, 1011 Paseo de Peralta, 505-954-5800 Kent Monkman conflates figures of myth and religion with a little-explored topic of American history: the idyllic springtime gatherings of Native peoples, trappers, and mountain men for raucous, but mostly peaceful, revelry in the Rockies during the 19th century. The artist makes explicit references to art history while exploring contemporary issues, including gender identity and transgenderism. His solo show The Rendezvous opens with a 5 p.m. reception on Friday, July 7.
