King Gal­leries, 130-D Lin­coln Ave., 505-480-440-3912 Vir­gil Or­tiz con­tin­ues the tra­di­tion of Co­chiti Pue­blo pot­tery-mak­ing, trans­lat­ing Co­chiti vis­ual el­e­ments into con­tem­po­rary forms with the­matic in­no­va­tions, such as his on­go­ing ex­plo­ration of chang­ing mores re­gard­ing taboo sub­jects. “Our art from the late 1800s told the sto­ries of what those people were ex­pe­ri­enc­ing at that time,” he writes. “That opened the door for me to use taboo top­ics to en­gage people about to­day’s so­ci­ety, cul­ture, pol­i­tics, re­li­gion, and even so­cial me­dia.” Taboo opens with a 5 p.m. re­cep­tion on Fri­day, July 21.
