Rob Vanderslice: The Narrow Gate 2017, mixed media
Vida Loca Gallery, 203 W. San Francisco St., 505-988-7410 Nationally recognized lowrider and hot rod artist Rob Vanderslice reworks the complex designs of his autobody paint jobs for his first formal solo exhibition, The Journey. Vanderslice’s “Rob jobs” were featured in the New Mexico History Museum’s recent show Lowriders, Hoppers, and Hot Rods, and his work has appeared in Lowrider Magazine. The Journey includes 13 new mixed-media pieces by the artist that reflect his interest in complex curvilinear and geometric designs with candy striping, metal flake paint, and a look that conjures up ideas of motion, energy, and speed. The show includes works by his son Allante, daughter Dacia, and father Michael, and opens with a noon reception on Saturday, Aug. 5.
