Duke Sundt: Wake Up Call 2017, bronze
Kennedy Alumni Hall, New Mexico Highlands University, 905 University Ave., Las Vegas, New Mexico, 505-425-7511 Artist Duke Sundt, a former bronc and bull rider on the rodeo circuit, turned his talent for constructing papier-mâché rodeo scenes into the bronze sculptures for which he’s known. He’s a featured artist and the curator of NMHU’s exhibition Reflections of the West, which opens with a 4 p.m. reception on Friday, Aug. 4. The show coincides with Las Vegas Heritage Week and includes works by painter Kimberly Reed-Deemer, photographer Scott Vail, sculptor Noble Brooks Read, and other regional artists. “This exhibit reflects the spirit of New Mexico, which will cause some people viewing it to reflect upon their own memories and experiences of our state,” Sundt said in a statement. The exhibit is on view through Aug. 28.
