Fid­dledeedee: The Sol­dier’s Tale

Stravin­sky com­posed The Sol­dier’s Tale in 1918, the fi­nal year of World War I, en­vi­sion­ing a theater piece for nar­ra­tor and cham­ber en­sem­ble that would be easy to pro­duce and trans­port. Santa Fe Cham­ber Mu­sic Fes­ti­val of­fers it in a stag­ing by Doug Fitch, with vi­o­lin­ist-and­con­duc­tor John Storgårds head­ing a group of seven in­stru­men­tal­ists plus the ac­tor Wal­lace Shawn as nar­ra­tor. Pre­ced­ing it on the pro­gram are works by Rach­mani­noff and Pi­az­zolla, played by the Anderson & Roe Pi­ano Duo. The per­for­mance takes place at 6 p.m. on Thurs­day, Aug. 17, at the Len­sic Per­form­ing Arts Cen­ter (211 W. San Fran­cisco St.).
