An ad­mirably broad va­ri­ety of peo­ple and in­sti­tu­tions are rec­og­nized in the an­nual Gover­nor’s Awards for Ex­cel­lence in the Arts. This year it’s writer and con­ser­va­tion­ist Wil­liam de Buys, san­tero Gus­tavo Vic­tor Goler, mu­si­cians Ken Kep­peler and Jeanie McLerie (Bayou Seco), arts and cul­ture preser­va­tion­ist He­len R. Lucero, the Roswell Artist-in Res­i­dence Pro­gram, pot­ter Rus­sell Sanchez, and pho­tog­ra­pher Will Wil­son. In his Crit­i­cal In­dige­nous Pho­to­graphic Ex­change project, Wil­son uses tin­type por­traits to bal­ance the his­tor­i­cal record of por­tray­als of Na­tive Amer­i­cans.
