Fatima Ronquillo: Mad Enchantment
2017, oil on panel
Meyer Gallery, 225 Canyon Road, 505-983-1434 Painting in a style reminiscent of American colonial and European classical traditions, Santa Fe-based artist Fatima Ronquillo creates evocative pictorial images, blending rich symbolism with cherub-like figures who often appear lost in reveries of love and longing. Her subjects are rendered in pastoral settings that evoke the timeless landscapes of myth. “These works are a continuation of the flora and fauna and blind love themes that I’ve been working on the past couple of years,” she said in a statement. “But this time there is a bit more magic.” Mad Enchantment, her latest exhibition, opens with a 5 p.m. reception on Friday, Sept. 15.
