An American original
Since winning the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Vocals Competition in 2010, stylish singer Cécile McLorin Salvant has captured the attention of the jazz world with her exquisite voice and craft. She also has a reputation for the adventurous material she presents, a considered program of standards, rowdy blues, and overlooked gems, not to mention an original or two, that give her performances an extra measure of meaning and emotion. She appears Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center with her trio. On the cover is a photo of the singer by Hector Perez.
